  • When it first came out the Jimmy Jib revolutionised remote-controlled jibs, it was cheaper, lighter and easier to transport than anything that came before. It’s still a very flexible piece of kit and something that can be used whilst recording sound (unlike drones). It comes in a variety of lengths and can be used for a variety of things.

People tend to think of it as a device for doing spectacular moving shots, which is often what it’s used for. If you want to repeat moves on a television programme you need a highly skilled jib operator, but if you want to use it as the most amazingly flexible tripod you’ve ever had, most camera operators can operate it themselves.

Because of its ease of movement, long reach, and flexible remote-controlled head you can set it up so that you can get a camera into any corner of a studio or set in a matter of seconds. This enables you to do shots that you wouldn’t have time to achieve by conventional means. You do however need time to put it together and the ability to drive the transport vehicle near to where you want to use it (unless you’re a masochist). We only put it out with one of our assistants, so that you have somebody to put it together for you who knows where everything is.
