This simple device enables you to mount the camera on its side to shoot 16 x 9 vertically. There are various reasons why you might want to do this. An example is shooting people on green screen to enable you to shoot a full length image but be able to go to close-up in postproduction while still retaining full resolution. A vertical 4K green screen image will still give you full 1080 even after moving in to a close-up. This avoids continuity errors that occur when you shoot the same piece to camera several times but different sizes. Another use of this is shooting moving images to go on vertically mounted screens used to display information in exhibitions, without the massive resolution loss incurred by rotating the image and cropping it.
